Carnival Contender - Manilenya

ManilenyaWELL-BRED mare Manilenya will be aimed at the major cups in February following impressive performances early in her summer preparation.

Winning a class 2 handicap over 1600m in a field of only seven runners on November 17 might not sound exciting but it was the way the Julie Richards-trained mare went about winning the race that had her connections abuzz with excitement.

Richards is likely to target a 1600-metre weight-for-age race to get a better indication of where Manilenya sits in the big picture but her breeding (High Chaparral-Jaja) suggests she will deliver over 2400 metres, the distance of the Hobart and Launceston cups.

The five-year-old is lightly raced with her third career win on November 17 coming from only 13 starts with eight minor placings helping to boost her career earnings to almost $60,000.
