The St Mary’s Pacing Club (StMPC) on Tasmania’s East Coast hosts only one meeting a year and is usually held on the last day of the year, 31 December (in 2017 this meeting had to be rescheduled to April 15 due to the weather).
The St Marys racecourse is a grass track 1 of only two for harness race meetings in Tasmania.
The tight track can cater for only five horses on the front row but the action gives racegoers a feeling that they could almost touch the horses as they skim the outside fence when making their moves in the backstretch and home straight.
The feature race that locals vie for is the $10,000 Southern Cross St Marys Pacing Cup.
