Welcome to the BHRC

The Burnie Harness Racing Club (BHRC) is a vibrant club run entirely by volunteers. Situated on the North West Coast of Tasmania the Burnie track is on the main road into Burnie with Bass Strait as the stunning backdrop.

The club hosts eight race meetings during the summer months attracting good crowds with entertainment for the whole family.

The Burnie Trotting Club held its first race meeting on the Montello track on June 29, 1911, the tote held 150 pounds.

In 1918 a six-race trotting meeting was held at the Wivenhoe Showgrounds.

The Burnie Trotting Club reformed in May 1947 and has raced on the present site at Wivenhoe since.

The Burnie Paceway is on the main road of Wivenhoe, which is the entrance to Burnie from the East.

Burnie Harness Racing Club History

The Burnie Trotting Club held its first race meeting on the Montello track on June 29, 1911, the tote held 150 pounds. In 1918 a six-race trotting meeting was held at the Wivenhoe Showgrounds. The Burnie Trotting Club reformed in May 1947 and has raced on the present site at Wivenhoe since. The Cup was discontinued after 1924 and reintroduced in 1953.

The Club celebrated its centenary on May 19, 2011 at the Annual Club Dinner.

A major event for the club in 2011 was the first race meeting to be telecast on Sky. With the success of this event, the club went on to finance the installation of lighting for the track and oval with support from the Burnie City Council and Tasracing. The first meeting under lights was held on 16 May 2015 with a crowd in excess of 800 attending. All meetings are now telecast on Sky.

30 packages are available for $300 + gst each.

All participants receive advertising packages with the major winner and 4 supplementary winners receiving entertainment packages as well.

This popular event is always fully subscribed and a enjoyable night is held for the draw.
